Home Schooling

Home Schooling, AKA Elective Home Education, is apparently on the increase all over the country. I checked on line and the latest stats for Redbridge were from 2002 to 2007 and did show an increase, so I can only assume that this trend is going up year on year.

Redbridge
2002 - 31
2003 - 24
2004 - 27
2005 - 35
2006 - 43
2007 - 38

Of course the stats don't give any detail, such as why the parents / carers chose to home educate, but I guess that generally parents are taking up the option because they can.

Redbridge do have a section on their website: Home schooling which gives advice to parents considering the option of home schooling.

I wondered if anyone out there has educated their child at home, or knows of any success stories. If so, a brief summary of child's age, how long for, what type of programme, what did you do about GCSE or equivalent exams etc etc.

Thanks

Home School is the education of children at home, typically by parents but sometimes by tutors, rather than in other formal settings of public or private school. The advantages of home schooling is that it gives us, as parents, the opportunity to customize our child's educational experience and to create the best learning environment for his or her needs.

Homeschooling is a legal option in many places for parents to give their children a learning environment as an alternative to public schools provided. Parents cite many reasons that motivated objections Homeschool, including improved academic achievement test, the poor public schools, the moral character improvement and development and what is taught in public schools at the local level .
