Apparently home schooling is on the increase. I have written a starter item in the Redbridge Community Forums site.

Latest update, brought to my attention by DopeyF is that the Redbridge petitions and e-petitions proposed scheme will be discussed at full cabinet meeting on Monday 21st June:

I have attached a copy of Agenda item number 8 as well as the Local Government final guidance with suggested draft scheme issued in April 2010.

As far as I can see though Redbridge’s proposed scheme is in keeping with the draft scheme issued by the government on 2nd April 2010, i.e. that to trigger a debate by full council 1500 signatures are required, and to hold an officer to account 1250 signatures are required.

Personal Best is an exciting new 10 week course in Redbridge designed for individuals interested in personal development and volunteering as a route to employment.

The course is jointly funded by the LDA and LSC and includes 20 hours of volunteering.

All participants that complete the course will be awarded a nationally accredited and recognised OCN Qualification in Public Event Volunteering at Level 1.

A Guaranteed interview will be offered by LOCOG for Personal Best graduates that complete the training course and successfully apply to be Games Time volunteers for the 2012 Olympics.

Political Legend to visit Redbridge

Sonia Klein, PPC Ilford North, Labour, hosts an audience with Tony Benn, veteran of Parliament and former Labour MP.

On Friday, 5th March, 7.30pm – 9.30pm, Sonia Klein, PPC Labour for Ilford North will host ‘An Audience with Tony Benn,’ at the Redbridge Institute.

Friday’s free, public event will give the local community of Redbridge an opportunity to take part in a discussion with Tony Benn, the current President of Stop the War Coalition. Ilford residents will be able to take part in a frank and lively debate with the former politician, addressing a number of important local and national issues.

Sonia Klein, PPC for Ilford North, said:

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to host an evening with Tony Benn; he is a true political icon and a national treasure. It is important to get the local community involved in grass roots politics and I hope that by hearing Tony speak the local residents of Ilford will become inspired to have their say.”

Tony Benn, said:
“This is going to be a very friendly and interesting open meeting. Sonia and I will make our case and then it will be over to the audience to make it their meeting, addressing local needs and initiatives. Sonia has worked very hard to understand the needs of those she hopes to represent and this meeting will provide a great forum to do so.”

The meeting is free and all are welcome to join, it will be held on Friday, 5th March, doors open at 7pm at the Redbridge Institute of Adult Education, Gaysham Avenue, Gants Hill, Ilford, IG2 6TD.

Further to my communications with Councillor Prince in early December 2009, and subsequent information and contact details, I wrote to Liz Fenton, Head of Strategy on 2nd February 2010, requesting an update on progress with the borough’s response to the draft statutory guidance on e-petitions issued by the CLG, and their progress with their own plans for providing such a facility on the Redbridge e-government website.

Fairlop Waters is under development at the moment, but it’s still in use as a public park. Only this morning I saw a group of local bird watchers with their telephoto lenses. tripods etc looking for wildlife to photograph.

Needless to say that the park is still a favourite location for dog walkers, who appear to be following the byelaws and cleaning up after their dogs. But how can they do that when the dog foul bins are so full, and overflowing with bags of dog excrement? I took this photo as evidence. This bin has been like this for around two weeks I reckon, as last weekend I walked around Fairlop and it was full up and beginning to overflow then. You can even see where bags have fallen on the ground, creating a health hazard!

Come on Redbridge council! What’s going on? If you’re going to fine irresponsible dog owners, who is going to fine you for not providing adequate facilities?

Following on from the earlier cost-cutting exercises uncovered regarding the great Redbridge clean-up campaign, it would appear as though the latest attempts to save money during the forthcoming political campaigns include recycling the dog foul bins and using them to carry slogans for those aspiring to take control of the council this year.
